groninger achieves a new record result

groninger looks back on a successful 2021 financial year. Even in the past financial year, the family business remains on course for growth and has recorded an increase of around eight percent compared to the previous year.

The groninger group of companies closed the 2021 financial year with a new record result. The overall performance was over 215 million euros, i.e., around eight percent more than in the previous year.

There was strong growth again in incoming orders. At its headquarters in Crailsheim, where groninger builds filling and closing systems for the pharmaceutical industry, the company has received orders at a worth of around 255 million euros. At the Schnelldorf plant, where machines for processing consumer healthcare and cosmetic products are produced, it was over 50 million euros. At the US branch in Charlotte, which offers service in all areas, at just under 20 million euros.

“We owe this great entrepreneurial achievement to the tireless efforts of our 1,300 employees. Despite the ongoing burdens that the COVID pandemic brought with it in 2021, we stuck together. With a lot of creativity and commitment, we were again able to defy the challenges caused by COVID” Managing Director Jens Groninger, shares his appreciative words for his team.

The pandemic is a booster that has further increased the dynamics within the industry – especially in the pharmaceutical sector, explains the CEO. “As a team, we had to withstand this pressure without compromising on the quality of our products and services. That requires a lot of perseverance and stamina. And we did it!”

As a token of gratitude and recognition for this achievement, the employees once again received a special COVID bonus in January and a profit share of over 60 percent of their monthly salary in April of this year.

Expansion

The total output for 2021 was again generated in the most important sales markets worldwide: 30 percent in North and South America, 50 percent in Europe, including Germany, and 20 percent in Asia. We have further expanded our global presence and have once again shown our international customers that they are able to count on us. That they have a reliable partner at their side in groninger” says Managing Director Volker Groninger.

Due to the tense situation on the procurement market, it was by no means taken for granted. Jens Groninger explains that the groninger group has also felt the impacts of the sometimes dramatic material bottlenecks at all locations: “Even though we were able to cushion the situation to a large extent up to around the middle of the year – thanks to strategic and well thought-out planning in procurement and in the warehouses – from around the second half of 2021 it was only possible with a great deal of ingenuity.”

Nevertheless, the signs at groninger continue to point to growth. In order to be able to process the high order backlog in the future, the foundation stone was laid in February 2021 for a new storage and logistics center including a fully automated small parts and high-bay warehouse. The building is now nearing completion. The complex is scheduled to be inaugurated and operations set to begin in the summer. The automated high-bay warehouse for pallets was built in the first expansion stage with three aisles and a capacity of 3,100 storage spaces. If necessary, it can be expanded by two more aisles to a maximum capacity of 5,200 storage bays.

The automated small parts warehouse was designed for almost 13,000 containers. If needed, it has also an additional space of 5,000 parking spaces for expansion.

The investment volume is over 20 million euros and is the largest single investment in the more than 40-year history of the groninger group.

The expansion at the Crailsheim site is to be continued in the current 2022 financial year. The preparatory work for a new assembly hall, which is currently still in the planning phase, has recently started. In the summer, the entrance area will also be designed in the form of a new gate.

“A clear commitment to our site in Crailsheim” agree the brothers Jens and Volker Groninger. “This way we are laying the foundation for our further growth and will remain true to the path we have already taken” affirm the Managing Directors.
